FUel problemo

Post by squidge »

Hi there,

i think I have a fuel prob but not sure how to fix it. Firstly, my scoot wont start by kickstarting, dont know why?

We managed to kind of jump start it but when I turned the throttle it was like there was no power, it just stayed idling,

Any idea?

Cheers

Hi. What kind of scooter is it? If it has a wacum carb, i might be the membran. If not, maybe some dirt in the mainjet.

Hi again. Its not easy to tell . How is the condition of the rest of the engine? Crankseals and crankhouse gaskets? What kind of ignition do you have? CDI or?

Did you check the spark plug? If it's still dry after kicking, no fuel gets into the cylinder, so check the carburetor again.

You can also try using start gas (or a steep downhill). Sometimes it's enough to rev it up artificially to cleanse the jets.

Another road-side tip is to take off the air-filter, kick the engine over while holding a cloth to the air-intake and suddenly taking the cloth away to create a stronger vacuum.

Yep, the spark plug is changed for a new one, and I had a look at it and couldnt really tell if it was wet or not, it wasnt overly wet and to be honest it spelt more like burnt oil rather than fuel, obviously where the spark was igniting the small amount of oil in there.

How could I check the carb, what should I look for?

Cheers

Just saw your reply SR500,

I have prertty much gone over the whole engine, new gaskets, checked the piston, that was all good,

it is indeed a CDI ignition, nothing fancy on this scoot ;)

I am pretty sure its something to do with the fuel not getting through.

You said earlyer, that you had some oil on the sparkplug. Thats why i asked you about the crankseals. How much do you mix your fuel? But as i use to tell my friends, its not easy to fix a bike on the phone.

Ah ha got ya,

nape all the seals are good, it isnt actually that much oil, and to be honest I think its just residue, it is very minimal indeed.

Its not like it is coating the plug, more just around the 1st couple of threads.
