Fitting polini carb onto manifiold

Post by squidge »

Hi there,

I need a little advice. I have just bought a new polini carb kit. When trying to put it together as a dry run, i find that it is really hard to fit the carb to the manifold because it is so tight.

Is there an easy way of fitting these, I have heard that you can heat up the manifold a little to expand the metal a little.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Hi Matt

The fit should be quite tight in order to avoid leaks. It should however not be so tight that you need to heat it to slide it on.

If necessary, take a fine grinding paper(?) typically 600-1000 grain and polish the manifold so the carb slides on neatly. It should not need very much work unless you have got the wrong carb to the wrong manifold.

HI there,

thanks for the sanding tip. I bought the kit as one from SIP. The carb goes on about half way and then it gets a bit stiff so I am pretty sure it is the correct one. I will give it gentle sand like you said. Shouldnt need much at all.

Thanks for the help. Just want to get the scoot started now. ;)

Try if some grease is enough to slide it into place before you sand it!

yeah good idea. DOnt want to bugger it up and end up sanding it too far.

I am a total novice on these matters so its all new to me.
