Tips for Sweden and Skandinavia

Post by joe »

Hej,

A friend of mine and i will go on a trip across Sweden and Norway this June/July and it would be very cool if some of you could provide us with a little bit of informaiton on certain topics. As i kow that scooterists are very easy and knowing people (i am one therefore i have to know :mrgreen: ) your opinion and tips would be very much appreciated...

+Is it possible to participate in the midsommar-partys around the country or are they only for local folk?
+Are there cheap ways to stay overnight besides putting up your tent in the wilderness?
+Do you have general Info about the country/sights/cool stuff wich i wont find in any guide?

I know thats a lot i ask but if someone could give me information on one or another topic it would already help us a lot with the planning. If this trip will work out i am planning to do a trip from Austria to the north cape with my scooter in the years to come 8)

Bye for now and thanky you in advance for any suggestions!

Ride on!

There are midummer parties in every town and everyone can participate. I would recommend to talk to some locals and/or check the newspapers for the area where you plan to spend the midsummer. Some are more for families and others are more party.

Check out http://www.svenskaturistforeningen.se/en/, that is probably the cheapest way to spend the night, except for tent,

To be able to give you more specific recommendations, it would be best if you could describe your general plan for the trip. Where/when and for how long.

Good luck!

As stated above, check out Svenska Turistföreningen, and you will find a list of all hostels (Swedish: Vandrarhem) they have.

http://www.svenskaturistforeningen.se/d ... -Schweden/

They are usually nice, clean and fairly non-pricey alternative to camping, provided you bring your own sheets/sleeping bags and do cleaning up yourselves. Breakfast is normally not included.

A more detailed travel plan would help a lot regarding the other questions.

Hi,

Thanks for the interesting links. The trip will be from June 18th to July 10th 2011 (or as long as our money lasts :roll: ).
The route would be as follows:

* Linz (AT)
* Hamburg (DE)
* Københaven (DK)
* Malmö (SE)
* Kalmar
* Stockholm
* Gävle
* Östersund
* Trondheim (NO)
* Kristiansund
* Ålesund
* Bergen
* Stavanger
* Kristiansand
* Oslo
* Göteborg (SE)
* Arhus (DK)
* Fulda (DE)
* Linz (AT)

This route is not fixed and we may alter it during or before the trip depending on how interesting places are, how the weather is or if someone gives us tips where to go. We even consider to stay in Sweden the whole time and do some canooing. So if you know any special events or have interesting insider info wich could make our trip even more exciting i would be glad if you let me know :D

By the way: Weather here in Austria is like in midsummer already and i have got a sunburn driving around with my Vespa today 8)

Best,
Gerhard
