first i want to excuse for posting in English - I´m from Austria and cannot speak your language.
The reason why I use this forum is a little tricky - I bought a 200 Rally from Malmö and saw that the side panel (motor) is completely closed (no gaps) - it looks like original but I don´t know if this was ever produced in this way. A friend of me told me, that he heard that this panels were only produced for the northern marked ....can anybody confirm this ? Or has anybody a 200 Rally with such a side panel?
Which year? Ours (Finland) is from -73 and it has those ventilation gaps. And I think all Rally motor panels has gaps, at least all those that I have seen (and can remember). As said, a picture would be nice. It could be some previous owner that has had that part destroyed with a flywheel too close to the panel and fixed it by welding it like that and painted the panel so that one can't see it.

As far as I know, no Rally 200 was ever sold without the 'gills' on the engine side sidepanel. At least not in Sweden. Could it be a Sprint or SS 180-panel? (Edit: Or some Bajaj-side planel?)
Regards,
Guran
EDIT: As said above: it was very common for the gaps/gills to be chopped off by the flywheel if the Rally fell onto its side with the engine running. Could be a plate has been welded in its place.

i mean the slots through which you can see the flywheel...her it is closed, but it looks like original. there is nothing weldet ....Itry to post a picture a soon as I have one - But a guy from Malmö told me that a few Rallys where delivered with such side panels ...but just for a few months...and only to the northern countries like Sweden, Norway...I just want to be sure if this is known by other Rally - riders.....here in the "South" nobody knows about this....and I was a little surprised when i opened the transport cage.....
you´re surely right but the Bajaj panels don´t really fit to a Rally there are differences.... and I compared the panel with an "original" and everthing looks to be the same (ok - for my eyes )...
I bought a Rally 180 1969 model new in 1969 and 1972 model used a few years later, both had slots in the engine side panel. Many friends also hade Vespa Rally´s but I don´t remember any without slots in this panel.

Why on earth would they sell it without the slots? The 200cc engine has fairly poor cooling as it stands anyway, with the slots gone surely the eninge will run hot? Or?
I have never heard of any Rally's being sold without the slots.

PX200 has no slots and works great but PX panels don´t cover the fan intake?
The Vespa 50 got a special fan cover made for Sweden (scandinavia?) because of winter use was a problem with the original fan-cover. The Swedish version has a smaller air intake.

he he!
minns när en journalist skulle åka bakpå en GS160 i Gränna en gång i slutet på 90-talet. Byxan sögs in i fläkten och trasades sönder
Journalisten skulle varit smartare och valt en Bajaj för;
Javisst, Bajaj har verkligen tagit utvecklingen framåt för alla typer av personer åkandes med löst sittande plagg!
